Seorang pemuda yang menghidap penyakit kepala besar sejak lahir bekerja sebagai penjaga dan pencuci tandas awam secara kontrak di Puchong Perdana.

Baru berusia 22 tahun, pemuda yang bernama Helmi itu terpaksa menggunakan kerusi roda bagi melakukan tugas harian dan memperoleh pendapatan sekitar RM600 sebulan, lapor Harian Metro.

“Selalunya saya akan keluar dari rumah seawal jam 5 atau 6 pagi dan menolak kerusi roda sejauh empat kilometer ke stesen LRT Bandar Kinrara.

“Dalam perjalanan pergi balik, saya akan kutip tin atau besi buruk yang kemudian akan dijual kepada peraih,” katanya.

Menurutnya lagi, jika terlalu penat bekerja, anak bongsu daripada dua beradik itu akan tidur di dalam bilik stor bersebelahan tandas awam dan tidak pulang ke rumah.

Tambah Helmi, hasil pendapatannya tidak cukup sebagai pencuci tandas awam, menjual tin dan besi buruk walaupun ada mendapat bantuan.

Helmi menerima bantuan kewangan daripada Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat sebanyak RM400 sebulan.

“Dengan wang itu jugalah saya gunakan bagi membeli barangan keperluan asas untuk keluarga. Gaji saya akan serahkan kepada ibu untuk kegunaan keluarga.

“Kadangkala saya akan mengikat perut, makan sehari sekali. Kalau ada duit lebih, saya beli nasi bungkus, tetapi kalau poket kosong, hanya meneguk air saja.

“Apatah lagi sejak ibu disahkan menghidap pelbagai komplikasi penyakit seperti jantung dan buah pinggang awal tahun ini dan perlu menjalani rawatan ke hospital setiap bulan, saya kena bekerja lebih keras,”

Menurut ibunya, Helmi seorang yang kental dan tidak pernah merungut penat walaupun terpaksa bekerja keras mencari sumber kewangan untuk dirinya.

“Helmi seorang anak yang degil. Kalau dia kata nak cari duit sendiri untuk bantu keluarga, dia akan tetap buat walaupun pernah ditimpa pelbagai ujian sebelum ini.

“Dia tidak mahu mengharapkan belas ihsan orang ramai untuk makan minum keluarga. ”
